Between the return lane and the ready line, a car passes through check-in, wash, fuel, and sometimes the maintenance bay. Each handoff is recorded on a handheld or a whiteboard, and the count of cars ready to rent is only as accurate as the last update.

Ready to rent, and why not
A car is listed as ready to rent when it is in a ready stall or aisle, has no open fault codes, and is not short on fuel. Any other car shows the reason: its current stage, needs maintenance, or short on fuel.
Faults and low fuel flagged before rental
Cars with an open fault code, and ready cars short on fuel, are flagged before they are rented.
Stage history for every car
Each car keeps the list of stages it went through and the time spent in each. The dashboard shows the average time per stage against its limit.
